Marcellus Central School District Athletic Facilities

The Marcellus Central School District saw an increased demand for the use of the District’s athletic playing fields and facilities.

The fields were being utilized by the District as well as for community activities such as Little League and other youth sports programs. As a result of the extended use, play areas were becoming outdated, substandard, and in need of serious replacement and/or improvement.  Parrone Engineering was commissioned by the District to review the fields and design improvements that would suit the needs of the District and the Marcellus community.

Parrone Engineering completed the site design for a number of track and field events including an eight-lane international broken back running track, an encapsulated all-weather surface running track, a steeplechase, a long jump/triple jump, pole vault, and shot put/discus throw.  The firm also designed a 225' x 360' NFSHSA regulation soccer field made of synthetic turf with crumb rubber infill and a rubber shock pad to enhance safety.  The synthetic turf soccer field features a 1,200-seat beam style bleacher system including a press box, scoreboard, and sound system. Parrone Engineering was responsible for improvements to the natural turf fields, which include an all-purpose field and a baseball field. Drainage improvements and soil conditioning enhance the playability of the fields and will prolong their life cycle.
